CEO Message: From Amsterdam to Hangzhou – Kingpins Goes Around the World

As we wrap up an incredible show in Amsterdam and set our sights on Hangzhou, I’m reminded of what makes Kingpins truly unique: Our global spirit and community. From Europe to Asia, we’re not just hosting denim events — we’re building bridges across cultures, markets, and ideas.

Thank you to all who joined us for Kingpins Amsterdam in April. We are so gratified by the positive feedback we have received. Many exhibitors reported brisk turnout from existing customers and potential new ones. Attendees had great things to say about the show, including some of the new features we debuted this season.

Our Made in Japan initiative was very well received, with many people stopping by the space to meet with Japanese mills and manufacturers. People were also enthusiastic about the Japanese denim history talk with Yuji Honzawa (Dr. Denim), Betty Smith’s Yasuhiro Oshima, Big John’s Tsuyoshi Shimizu, and Amhot Holdings’s Bobby Tohma. Part of our Denim Talks series, the discussion was moderated by The Vintage Showroom’s Doug Gunn, who also curated an installation of vintage Japanese denim.

So many thanks go to Honzawa-san and Bobby-san for helping make Made in Japan possible.

We hope our “Made In” project grows in the future — including bringing more Japanese exhibitors to future Kingpins shows, as well as expanding the concept to other denim regions around the world.

Another launch project at Amsterdam was the Jeanius Hub, a dedicated space for new developments, new ideas and companies who are new to Kingpins. I hope you had a chance to visit the Jeanius Hub exhibitors or participate in the workshop organized by HMS (Hand Made Stones) and Panther Denim.  We love the idea of a dedicated space at Kingpins for companies and ideas like these and have plans to continue the Jeanius Hub in the future.

The Kingpins team is now off to our next event, Kingpins China-Hangzhou, set for May 22-23 at ADM More.

Slightly different than a typical Kingpins show, the event in Hangzhou features a mix of education, inspiring installations, workshops and retail to be a one-stop event for all denim lovers. In addition to our B2B exhibitors, we also invite denim consumers and fans to join us for activities designed to inspire, inform and entertain both audiences.

Visitors to the show won’t be able to miss The Wall by UseDem x Dinghui Fashion, a massive sustainable installation made with 500 pairs of jeans.

The LYCRA Company will demonstrate the advanced moisture-wicking technology in Cool.er by The LYCRA Company, where visitors can explore the inner workings of fabrics made from COOLMAX®

There are several workshops and hands-on demonstrations planned for denim insiders and denim fans alike, including:

-Highland Indigo Hands-On: Shibori & Doll-Making Workshop by Guizhou Zhangzhen fabric art

-“An Apple: Hands-On Upcycling Lab” by Cone Denim x Shanghai Jingqiu Industrial

-Funfair Denimland by Advance Denim, a creative upscycling workshop

We’ll wrap up the two-day event with a pop-up fashion show featuring the Denim Metiérs by Jeanologia collection, upcycled designs by UseDem and fashions by Angel Chan and Ponder.

That’s just a small sampling of what we have planned. There is a whole slate of informative and educational Denim Talks, as well as pop-up shopping and photo opportunities to capture the scene. We’re so pleased with the program we’ve put together and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Of course, we are grateful for the support of all our exhibitors and sponsors. You can find the exhibitor roster and more details about the show HERE.

I also want to call out an extra special thank you to Amy Wang and Michael Lam from Advance Denim, as well as their whole team, for all their help making this event possible. Similarly, I want to recognize and thank Cathryn Xu from Dinghui Fashion and her team, who were instrumental in making this show possible.

I look forward to seeing you all and having a productive, successful and fun show.
