NEXT STEPS FOR THE LAUNDRY TRUCK LA

Founded in 2019 by Jodie Dolan, The Laundry Truck LA is a Los Angeles-based 501C3 that operates mobile trailers that provide laundry services for unhoused people.

Dolan, the owner of women’s contemporary fashion brand Dolan Group, was inspired to found the nonprofit while volunteering for a nonprofit that operates mobile shower trucks on LA’s Skid Row.

“I saw people were coming in and taking a shower and having this amazing moment, seeing dignity come back in their faces and feeling good,” she said. “And then I’d watch them have to put their dirty clothes back on.”

In 2019, she built the first trailer outfitted with washers and dryers to provide free mobile laundry services to unhoused individuals, children, and families.

Since washing the first load in 2019, the nonprofit has done more than 57,000 loads of laundry across Greater Los Angeles. In addition to unhoused communities, the nonprofit serves seniors and, most recently, provided emergency services for people affected by this year’s wildfires in Southern California.

Currently, the business operates three trailers. The Laundry Truck is currently building its 4th and 5th trailer and fundraising to expand services.
