With a focus on the surface trends of the season – fiber, fabric & finish – this new report combines Denim Dudes’ trend insights with the latest developments from the top denim mills around the world

LOS ANGELES | January 27th, 2021 | Denim Dudes, the leading denim and culture trend consultancy, has launched a new offering for the denim industry – The Denim Directory. A comprehensive report that summarizes the latest denim fabric trends, The Denim Directory launches on January 27th, 2021 with the Spring/Summer 2022 season.

The 50 page trended report features Denim Dudes’ renowned insights into the leading market drivers of the season, using a carefully curated selection of fabrics from across the global supply chain. Launching with approximately 400 fabric qualities from more than 40 contributors, The Denim Directory includes offerings from mills, manufacturers, chemical companies and the surrounding supply chain. The Directory also includes 35 detailed profile pages on each contributor, showcasing an edit of their seasonal highlights and contact details. Mills include AGI, Bossa, Tejidos Royo, ISKO, Cone, Arvind, Calik and many more.

“We have decided to make this report open to all, with a ‘pay what you can’ option,” says Amy Leverton, Founder of Denim Dudes. “At a time like this, we want all companies, large and small, struggling or buoyant, to have the most current and in-depth information out there in order to make the smartest and most sustainable choices. With this report, we aim to close the physical gap between us, through information sharing and transparency.

To help denim brands achieve greener goals and continue their progress towards smarter design, The Denim Directory recaps sustainability and fabric technology trends as well as weaves and emerging fibers.

“With many racing to have the ‘most sustainable’ option or be the first to patent a new process or technology, there is a lot of marketing from the supply chain that makes it very hard for designers and buyers to decipher what truly is the best option that fits within their needs,” says Ani Wells, founder of Simply Suzette. “A guide like this will help designers comb through the differences between sustainable materials and technology to better inform their purchasing decisions and ensure the fiber, dyes and finishings they choose will fulfil their design and product development needs. All this without having to get on a plane!”

While the ability to access actionable information and inspiration has been curbed, the need among designers and brands to gather and digest macro seasonal information remains as strong as ever. Denim Dudes has answered this need by creating a beautiful, concise and directional report.

“2020 has significantly changed the resources and level of inspiration designers have at their disposal to shape and inform their collections,” said Leverton. “Trade shows, fashion weeks, showroom visits and inspiration trips have all been cancelled due to COVID. Plus, design teams have thinned – leading to a time-deficit among designers with increased duties and reduced time for exploring offerings from mills. With The Denim Directory, we are able to use our specific skill set and industry access to create a report that fills in the gaps for designers in a way we never have before.”

“After a challenging year and lack of IRL fabric inspiration, I yearn for creative input and to see new fabric innovations presented in depth,” said Malin Ekengren, Stella McCartney denim designer and consultant. “I am excited to see a new, unbiased format that delivers key denim fabric trends with a focus on the best natural sustainable fibres with recycled content and mills that take these values into consideration and work with the latest technologies to reduce the environmental impact.”
